Ferry to Koh Lanta - When and Where To Go

Koh Lanta is a beautiful island to the south of the Krabi Province in Thailand. These beautiful tourists' paradise off the coast of Krabi is accessible from both sea and land.  If you want to enjoy the beautiful view of the islands in the Andaman Sea then you should take the ferry.  When you are coming outside Thailand, you should fly to either Trang or Krabi airports where you will be able to link with a Ferry to the Koh Lanta islands.

From the mainland, the passenger Ferry to Koh Lanta - Andaman Ferry Service is only available between November and April every year. This is usually the high season for tourists and the ferry is the most popular means of transport at the time.  During the offseason that lasts between May and October the only means of transport between the mainland and Koh Lanta is by Car.

Most visitors to Koh Lanta fly to the Krabi airport. From the airport, you should take a taxi to either the Ao Nang pier which will take you about 30 minutes or to the Krabi town pier which should take you about 15 minutes.   From the Krabi town Pier, you board the Ko Jum/ Koh Lanta Ferry that will take you through the beautiful sea to Koh Lanta. This journey to Koh Lanta lasts for about 2 hours. If you are taking a ferry from the Nopparat Thara pier in Ao Nang then the journey to Koh Lanta will take you about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

There are also Ferry services from other islands in the Andaman Sea that will take you to Koh Lanta.  From Ko Phi Phi you will have to take a ferry at the Ton Sai pier and this ferry journey will last for about one hour and ten minutes. You can also take a ferry from Phuket for your journey to Koh Lanta. Here your journey starts at the Rassada pier and will take four hours before you land in Koh Lanta.

It is important to pay attention to the timing of your trip to Koh Lanta especially if you want to use the local passenger ferries. Passenger Ferries between Koh Lanta and the surrounding island and the Krabi mainland operates between 6 am and 10 pm every day. Beyond this time, the only means of traveling around the Andaman Sea is by a private boat which is more costly especially if you are a budget traveler.

Arriving on Koh Lanta Island is just the start of your holiday. There are a lot of beautiful places and things to do and see in Koh Lanta.  If you love water sports then head to Koh Rok. This is one of the best snorkeling places in the Andaman Sea. For a swim in the scenic sea then head to the Emerald Cave at the Koh Muk. Here you will get into a closed beak area that is surrounded by beautiful cliffs like no other place on earth. To sample some the best local delicacies, Koh Lanta has a number of great restaurants that serve both local and exotic dishes. This should excite your test buds and make everything quite interesting during your stay here.
